Here's my new race track. SCX Compact, Nascar set, DTM set and some extra track. It's an 'over-the-pool-table' set up, so the tables are built light and bolted together. I'm going to add another 4X4 section of table on the far end, to extend the back straight to 12.5 ft. I had to get it up and running for the Grandkids, who are coming up this weekend.

Up until now we've been racing on a vintage Tyco HO set, with bad controllers, pieces-parts cars and some bad track. This will be quite a treat for them.

For track border I used guard rails on the raised turns and foam tape on the flat turns.

Pit garage and other scenery will be added later. Now it's time to race!

And yes, that is sparkle felt covering the table! I thought the kids would like it.

Nice simple design, I'm sure the grandkids'll have a blast! That foam tape seems to be about the right height, good idea. Have fun with the scenery, might not be so portable after awhile tho. For me, the scenery, et al, is almost as much fun as racing. I'm an old model builder reliving his past I guess!

PS, welcome to this forum too!

Thanks for the welcome!

I agree about the scenery. I probably will keep it simple, unless I get carried away. (which after seeing other peoples' layouts seems to happen frequently!).

Simple design for now, but after the table extension it may get more complicated.

Wonderful set up and great use of space. Your racing photos and flags on the surrounding walls do a lot to enhance the experience as well.

Ahab out...........

Terrific track. Very nice way to lay it out, too.

Here's a couple new pics after I went and scarfed up more clearance track at Target.
A little more complex, should be more interesting. The 180 curve at the far end is
resting on the fence now, but when the extension table is added it will be back on the
table surface.

I also added a 'Pit Stop' repair and tuning area.

Racing Day is Saturday!!

Here's the completed track. I added the extension table and the dimensions are: 13'7" total length, 7' wide, 4' wide at the extension.

Scenery is next!

Looking good! Extension makes a big difference to the look (and feel, I'd bet). Be wary of elevations in the center, it may block the view to the outside lanes, especially for kids. I'd be tempted to elevate the extension.

Here's another version:

Someone in another forum suggested I add some different turns to spice it up. At first I was hesitant to use the other 45 degree turns I had because they're banked. I'll replace them at a later date. I'll race it like this for a while and keep it if I like it. Then I can start on the scenery.

Looks great, it's come right along. Where did you find the checkerboard material? The garage looks great.

I just found a checkered pattern online and saved it, then printed it on my printer. Cut out what I needed, glued it down and, viola!
