Sorry I didn't get a summary posted sooner, but I had a LONG track meet on Saturday (8:30 AM - 7:15 PM due to weather delays) and then had Easter events throughout today.

The demo on Thursday went really well. Rafe, his son Zach, and Zach's friend Michael assisted during the event. We setup a 12x8 area and put down a 4 lane oval that went the correct direction for NASCAR. The turnout was really good for this event and we had a big assortment of racers at the table (big/small, young/old). Trevor Bayne (http://nationwide.nascar.com/drivers/dps/tbayne00) and Ricky Carmichael stopped by and raced (Trevor on two different occasions). I forgot to bring my camera and didn't get anything good on my camera phone (not worth posting anyway since Rafe put the pics that he took up). We ran a variety of Aero's and COT's, 6 cars going most of the time in Precision Mode. With 4 people helping (we each kept a side of the table for marshalling and instructing) it went without a hitch.

Tear down went very quickly so we stopped at the local go-kart track for some extreme bumping action (the man on the PA kept yelling "NO BUMPING"). I left the starting line last but eventually got around Zach and Michael after they got tangled up, then challenged Rafe for the lead. Rafe got by me on the inside during the uphill section and then we slowed a bit for the two boys to catch up. Once they did I didn't stand a chance. . .carts were probably even but I have at least 30 pounds on any of them, so I didn't have the speed to contend. I think Zach ran away with the race after that.

Back at Rafe's house we raced for over an hour on their track. I brought 4 cars with me to race - all three of my converted R8's and my white Pug Club Car. Rafe's Pug Club Car took the first race by a second or so (it was REALLY close), then my Gulf R8 won the next couple of races. We finished up with a few all LMP races - Michael ran my Pug Club Car, Rafe in his Club Pug, Harry (Rafe's oldest son) drove my yellow R8, and Michael ran my Audi Japan R8. The LMP races were really competitive and we all had a great time.

A very special thanks to Rafe and his family for putting me up for the night. If there is an option to do this same event again next year please let me know!

Jason

Jason and Team:

IŽll bet a track like that allows 6 racers to really battle each other.

Chuck

It was a good track to learn to race on. . .but one kid just kept using my #3 Wrangler like a battering ram. The front end kept losing paint chips and I'll have to CA glue about a 1/2 inch crack on the front lip of the car. huh.gif

Great looking demo. Based on this layout, did anyone actually prefer to race on the inner 2 lanes that used the flat curves? I would think it would be best to simply stay in the outside two lanes to utilize the banking. Was just interested to see how much anyone actually utilized the extra lanes you provided?

Also, did you run the cars in junior mode? If so, were you able to basically hold down the throttle all the way around almost if you were in the outside lane? I definitely agree you want to run in junior mode at a demo, I just want to make sure drivers still have to practice a little throttle control in getting through the corners. Thanks for any tips.

Also, do you happen to have a Ultimate Racer layout track diagram for this? Might try this at Bristol in a few weeks.
