If a qualifier from a race isn't able to attend, the next highest qualifier is encouraged to represent their club (in order of finish at qualifying race). The car used for the Championship race will be the Ferrari FXX (all decorations or repainted body). This is the only car that will be used for the Championship race. Guidelines for car preparation: * Cars must have full windows and stock interior. The wing must be there at the start of the race, racers will not be penalized if the wing breaks off during competition. Slight modification for crown gear clearance will be allowed. Whether "too much" has been removed will be up to the race host to decide. It is strongly encouraged that a conservative approach should be taken by builders when considering doing any interior tray modifications. No modifications are allowed to the body (including but not limited to, cutting, sanding, fender flaring) ride height may not be altered in any way. * All cars will use the RX-42B, this motor will be issued the day of the race, paid for as part of the entry fee. * 9 tooth pinion that comes standard on RX42B will be used as the standard pinion for the finals. * Tire choice for local qualifying races is to be determined by the hosting club/track/store. 1 tire compound must be used for the race, the use of multiple type of tire compounds (during any 1 race day event) is discouraged. Race hosts should decide on 1 compound of tire that best suits their track. * Tires for the Championship race to be determined. Tires will be handout tires for the final race and the cost of the tires will be included in Championship entry fee. A specific part number will be specified to allow racers to practice with that tire. * Gluing of motor pod is allowed. Tape may be applied to the chassis to limit motor pod travel. Light sanding may be done around motor pod to allow pod travel. A Pro SCX motor pod may not be cut into a non-Pro car. A car that came with a two-post pod must retain a two-post pod. A car that came with a 4 post pod must retain a 4 post pod configuration. * Electronics, noise suppressor on the motor must be intact. Lights may either be functional or non functional but components for lights must remain intact inside car. The tabs that deliver power to the lights may, however, be removed if the builder decides to do so. The only part of the light system that may be removed is the 2 vertical tabs that bring power from the chassis to the horizontal strips inside the body. Those tabs may either be removed entirely or bent back so they don't touch the chassis. * No liquids can be applied to any part of the car other than oil/grease to motor, gears, bushings, axles. * No chemical treatment (ie., oil soaking or applying finger nail polish to harden surface of tires) is permitted on tires. * Chassis modifications are allowed for clearance of SCX Pro parts used. Cars may not be lightened by cutting the chassis or the interior, any modifications done must be for clearance (crown gear clearance or wheel hub clearance) issues only. Enforcement of this rule will be at the discretion of race officials (for both regional qualifying races and for final race). Chassis may be clearanced slightly to allow body to float. * Wheels/tires cannot protrude outside the body more than 1mm. * SCX Pro Race parts can be used. * weight may be added, weight minimum is 85 grams, maximum weight is 105 grams. ALL weight must be fully contained inside the body or magnet holder. Weight may NOT be glued/taped in whole or in part under the chassis. * Racing will be magnetless. * Wires may be soldered in car to conduct power. Any brand of wires is allowed. * Guide flag may be collared or glued to limit sideways play. * Braids are allowed to be rewoven. Any brand of braid is allowed. * Interior tray from any SCX car may be used. * Voltage for final race to be announced. * Racers will be allowed to install their own motor/tires in front of marshal. * Racers will be allowed to adjust their own braids during final race. They will call out to a race marshal who will come to them and watch as they adjust braids or remount tire that might have slipped. * Stock front wheels, 16mm rally wheels, 17mm wheels allowed for use on front of cars. * Front tires are allowed to be sanded provided that tires are not smaller than 16.5mm. Only SCX tires may be used on the front. -------------------- |

Silly question- Is there going to be any live scoring or video from the Nationals so we can live vicariously through our friends that were lucky enough to be able to attend? Regards Rico |

It's possible there may be. But Rich's place is going to be packed so I'm not sure there will be room for me to set up my laptop. I'll endeavor to do some nearly-live reporting though.
There will be video, yes. And photos, certainly. After the race they will be posted. DK -------------------- |

Good luck to all participants in this event. [/quote] Finally have electricity here after being w/o for 4 days. Here's my take on the SCX Nats 2009. Luck ran out in Detroit waiting for the connecting flight to Philly. Hurricane Ida brought wind that wouldn't let planes land in Philly so we sat for 2 hours and that's what I was hoping to have for practice. We got to bed at midnight and up at 7:30 to get to the track ASAP and not get lost driving without GPS in a strange city. We found it and managed to hit the setup with help from Joseph Rosares. Curtis and I got 4 minutes on each lane before the race started. This event started on time. All the cars went through pre-race tech and we drew #'s out of a box to determine which 42B motor we'd get and we chose a pair of IndyGrip tires that were provided by Professor Motor. Rich, the track owner then gave a complete rundown on how the event was to be run. All questions were answered. Everyone was focused on this event. Professional turn marshals were hired that did not race. Their focus was totally on the cars as they passed through the corners in front of them. These marshalls were the finest I have ever seen. Never was there a lapse during my four heats in my three offs. Amazingly, leading into the steep high bank, I was crashed out on the infield away from the marshall who then stabbed my car with a grabber almost instantly, changed hands with my car and had it slotted in time for me to lose less than half an 8 second lap. Simply amazing work. The marshals heads would follow the cars through the corners, each and every time. Phenominal work. The laps were tallied at the end of every heat and low et's were also recorded for each lane. This was done while the racers were changing lanes. The groupings of the racers was actually determined by Rich and others to pit similar driving abilities against one another. It worked perfectly. Lap after lap of clean racing. Six hours later we had a winner. I led after my segment with 296. I was 3 inches short of 297. My son, Curtis, had 297. I beat him by one lap at the regionals and he got me back when it counted the most. We were each given a door prize for coming all the way from Port Angeles, Washington which consisted of a Matt Kenseth #17 DeWalt Aero and a JPM #42 Aero which are some of our favorite cars, thank you Rich! Joseph Rosales won a Dale Earnhardt #3 Monte Carlo for being the first one to answer a question like "Since SCX is a Spanish company, what is the capitol of Spain?" Madrid. It was just fun! Barbeque was really good amd my hats off to Rich's wife who handled the hungry while Rich ran the race. I met some of the finest individuals, I've ever met at this event. These guys show up to win and everyone has fun which is as good as it gets. We had a blast! It is my sincere hope that this race will be a tradition here in North America, in Philadelphia, because if you haven't visited the birthplace of freedom, you need to make plans to do it first chance you get. We saw so much history and witnessed history bein made when Phil Jr.'s 304 closed the deal on 23 of America's finest racers. Thank you SCX and Great Traditions Hobby for all the effort and all the fun this race series provided and thank you to all the participants who made our racing experience at the 2009 SCX Nats, one to always remember. -------------------- STOP Global Whining!
