The Nascar Pro chassis Prototype, and the prototype body of the SCX Toyota Nascar.

The motor is the RX4H 25,000 rpm motor. A 10 tooth pinion and 27 tooth crown is utilized for this car. The brake shoe is used for this design and can either be adjusted or removed as the driver desires. The motor cradle design is the same design as the previous Pro cars from SCX. So that means that not only can you use the car as it is with the SCX motor but you can change out the motor cradle to use a bigblock motor by using the accessory motor cradle.

A key detail are the wheel inserts. They're new molds done just for this car which are mounted into new wheels which are also specific to this car. These prototypes sit too flush with the front of the wheels, they should be inset and modifications to the wheels/axles are going to be made to have them inset a bit more.

I want to emphasize that these are scale wheels for a Nascar and that the wheels are the same hub rib as the standard wheels which means that aftermarket tires slip on perfectly. I've already tried them with both SuperTires (thank again to Nick and Steve for helping out with samples) and I've tried the fit also with Australian MJK tires (thanks Syd)... again perfect.

The front tires are about a 60 shore the rear tires are about 30 shore and feel quite soft.

Front axle adjustment can be done with the center screw inside the chassis and two screws under the chassis, just as before.

The body shown with this car is the Toyota Nascar body. This is not the body that will come on the Pro Nascar this year but it does emphasize one thing, the standard SCX COT Nascar body will fit on this chassis. Bodies are interchangeable between Pro and standard SCX Nascars. And when SCX offers the Pro Nascar chassis as a separate piece you will be able to put the Pro chassis under any of the COT's from SCX you already have.

The clear interior tray you see is a vacuum formed accessory interior tray that come with the car. The clear tray weights only 2.5 grams (I weighed it to check). The standard interior weighs 10.1 grams or so. With the optional interior you can save quite a bit of weight if you choose to install it. The tray will come just as you see if here, without the head of a driver or the roll bar. If you'd like to add them you can use the head and roll bar from the standard interior.

How, you ask, is the tray held in place? With these small caps placed over the posts that are normally melted to hold the parts in place:

On the prototypes currently the caps are hard plastic but on the production car they will be a rubbery material similar to the mechanical brake shoe.

I will be testing the car today on a large track at Slotmania here in Barcelona. I've done a few slow speed laps on a small track here at Tecnitoys and the car feels good so far. On a personal note, after working on this project for the past few months it's quite satisfying to finally be holding the prototype.

Thanks Brian, and in answer to a question I'm sure you will have... there will be a total production run of 1200 of these cars. 300 of each of 4 deco's. July is the projected date for release.

Very nice work Dave! I know several of us in the local club (myself included) have been looking forward to this particular car. Awesome to finally see the prototype! I'm sure it's been listed somewhere, but what's the expected release date?

Well, there you have it. July release. Thanks Dave!!

I do want to add that the whole team here at SCX is just wonderful. The designers are very nice and very good at their jobs. We've had lots of good discussion about the car and changes that I'd like to make and ideas they have for changes too. It was just a great back and forth about slots... what a great time!

This is my Car Of The Year 2009.

Great job on the wheels, I cannot be happier seeing this effort.

Once again, fantastic photos and all the information I need.

Thanks Harry, high praise indeed! Another note, the body does NOT touch the chassis aside from the body mounting posts. So the body can "float" on the chassis by loosening the screws.

This is a serious change to the NASCAR world. It actually creates interest for me based on the level of tuning available. Normally NASCAR doesn't do much for me. Thanks for the news Dave.

Thanks to Dave for the preview/pix and thanks to the TechniToys engineering staff for helping out us North American racing fans!

The only thing I could ask for would be vac-form windows also, but perhaps they have addressed this with the Pro NASCAR COT body.

Hello Mick, no the glass in the car is a standard glass panel. Making a vacuum formed glass section is a great idea and I will bring this up to them.

I like the adjustable front axle height. Wish all slot cars had that.

How well does that little brake shoe work?

Si, both up and down adjustment is possible with the center screw for adjusting down (photo added below). And on the bottom of the chassis there are two small set screws for up axle adjustment. So the axle can either float or be set at a ride height you like. Well, I'll be honest with you about the brake shoe. I don't use it in cars I've tuned. But I know that some guys, a guy in my club, Chuck Perez who likes the brake shoe very much. It's personal taste, and what's good is that you can either adjust it or remove it entirely.

SCX just plain 'gets it'. This is the car that separates the toy replica's from the real thing for NASCAR fans of 1/32. Finally we will get quality components in a tunable chassis with forward thinking ideas like the interior clips. Finally there are real metal wheels included, hooray for SCX!
Anyone can tell this company is being guided by real enthusiasts of this hobby and I for one am glad to see it. Thanks for keeping us posted and for all the work you've done so far. Can't wait to own what appears to be the best NASCAR set-up available in the industry. Awesome job!

I like some of the features on this car. I like the way the interior is held in (great idea!), I like the ease of an engine swap too. SCX motors are really tough to get out, you almost have to break it to snap it out (in fact I have broken a chassis on my Volvo getting it out). Keep it up SCX!

So does it just drag against the crown when you lift off the throttle, or is there some sort of magnetic activation?

When you let off the brake, the pod slides rearward, and the crown gear rubs the brake shoe. I am not sure how strong the brakes are on the RX-4H, but some say the brakes are not as strong as could be, so it is good to have some extra braking effort built in, if you need it.

WOW! Great car! I like the vac-formed interior.... and vac-formed glass would be a great idea too! Even as separate spare parts to tune up the standard NASCARs.

COOL! .... have to pre-order all 4 versions blush.gif
