ta for the info PIMadrid

re the prices, what sort of rise are they... eg

Ref. 6374 Ferrari 550 Maranello..........................45 euros

Was it say 40 last year, or 42.50 or 35, etc. That will help the rest of us determine if/what new prices might be

It's quiet easy to find standard Scx cars at 38 Eur, so a jump to 45 Eur would be roughly 20% more

To give you a better picture, my reseller had more or less the following prices this year (standard cars, excluding Classic, sp. ed., etc.):
- SCX = 33
- Carrera & Scalextric = 36
- Ninco = 39
- Slot.it = 40

Scalextric has also announced a big increase of their prices dry.gif

If everything is confirmed later, 2009 might be a bad year for us

Hello,

I cannot confirm the price increase in Spain as I have been out of the loop on that for quite a while, but in the US, Canada, and UK, we are expecting price increases in the 6% to 8% range. Some individual items will be lower (including no price increase) and a few may be a bit higher.

2008 was a very difficult year for most manufacturers that do business with Chinese suppliers. In November/December2007 and January 2008 when most prices were being defined for 2008, there was only modest inflation in China. Then in March/April/May 2008 when most of the production started taking place the cost of oil had gone through the roof, and wages where also going up dramatically (largely due to the Olympics).

For 2009, we are actually seeing prices of raw materials come down a bit (but not a lot), while labor is flat to a little higher.

The combination of all this is that most manufacturers saw a 18%-20% cost increase during 2008 (far more than forecast, which meant that profitability suffered greatly while the consumers were benefiting). The 2-3% drop in costs during recent months still means that we have to pass a great deal of cost onto the channel and ultimately the end customers just to get back to margins that allow us to re-invest in the business.

Tecnitoys completed some reengineering of our operations during the last year that makes us more efficient at our current production volumes - so we will not need to pass all of the pure cost increases on to customers because of these efficiencies.

In the next few weeks, SCX will announce its 2009 catalog and release pricelists for respective countries. Keep in mind that in the US and Spain, SCX sets the Suggested Retail Price - but in all other countries, it is our distributor who suggests/sets prices (and therefore they differ from country to country).

I hope this insight is helpful.

Chuck

As in a white, paint your own?
In race trim? This will not be a street version C6, will it? I think that's the only way the C6R exists. Lights or no lights?

Thanks for your explanations Chuck

I sure agree with you, China manufacturing costs will only increase, unfortunately. Even if the US market don't see more than 6% to 8% price increase, I just hope European prices won't increase by 20%.

Danni, I just pulled that name out of the bunch, wasn't meaning anything particular

Thanks for the explanation Chuck - and we hope shipping costs plummet now that the price of oil has dropped significantly - funnily enough our supermarket chains put all sorts of prices up last year "due to increased costs of transport" ie fuel etc, barely any of it made its way to the truckies etc.... but now that fuel costs have dropped, there's been no drops in food etc sad.gif

My dear friend Andrew you have now found the true meaning of 'Capitalism'. And always remember, expenses rise to meet income.

Mate, I'm already aware of what capitalism means. Its funny how things are changing now that the big R word is being bandied about. I saw recently in the news 2 big market players who topped themselves since they only had millions to play with now, instead of their previous billions

Well it seems that Ron Fellows and Andy Pilgrim are out of the bag.... this should be a popular car with all the Vette fans out there I think.

The "Scalextric" branding will make that another Spain only release I assume.

I don't suppose there is any possible chance of a choice being available for the SCXWW club car? Something like this R8 with SCX branding possibly. I'm afraid that non-road based cars like the LMP Peugeot don't "do it" for me, so I won't be joining again this year. I realise I may be in the minority, but think there may be others with similar feelings.

Hello Jim, I agree that not everyone will be happy with any choice that is made for a club car. Going with the vast majority of voices here though, the 908 is clearly the favorite.

And this is the first photo I've seen of the Spanish club car.... a pleasing looking design for sure.

Yes, a nice looking car, BUT... there's no navvie so it's not a rally car. A little disappointing there.
